On August 30, officers of the Enforcement and Control Division of Traffic Kowloon West (T KW) received a call about a truck driver being trapped between his truck and a wall. After a field investigation, it was believed that the driver had not applied the truck’s handbrake before getting out of the vehicle and thus the truck rolled forward. The driver attempted to board the truck again but unfortunately he was stuck between the truck’s door and the wall. Police officers and firefighters worked together to push the truck away to free the trapped driver. As a result, the driver was rescued swiftly and his life was not in danger after receiving medical treatment.
Officers of Enforcement and Control Division of T KW always reach the scene of traffic accidents quickly. They are familiar with different driving routes and closely communicate with their teammates to share traffic information. Thus, they are able to assemble swiftly to form a rescue team to handle incidents. Police Constable Yuen Sek-hin, who assisted in the rescue, recalled, “When I reached the scene, the firefighters had just arrived. My teammates also arrived shortly afterwards. The driver was caught between the truck’s door and the wall. His facial expression showed that he was in great pain. My teammates and I assisted the firefighters in pushing the truck away from the driver.” With the joint effort of police officers and firefighters, the driver was rescued in ten minutes.
Many drivers get out of their vehicle without applying the handbrake. This careless action can lead to serious consequences. It was fortunate that the driver only sustained minor injuries in this incident. The Police would like to take this opportunity to remind drivers about the importance of applying handbrakes whenever a vehicle is stationary to ensure their own safety and that of others.
