Lantau District (LTDIST) took part in an inter-departmental drill coordinated by the Islands District Office on July 6 to test the emergency response to flooding in Tai O. Relevant government departments such as the Fire Services Department (FSD), the Hong Kong Observatory and the Drainage Services Department, as well as non-governmental organisations participated in the drill to enhance the preparedness in the event of serious flooding and promote residents’ understanding of emergency response arrangements.

The drill simulated people being stranded during a serious flooding in Tai O. Police officers, together with FSD and Civil Aid Service personnel, brought along life jackets and first aid supplies to evacuate stranded people and elderly singletons. After the drill, representatives of relevant departments and organisations conducted a review on the emergency response arrangements, and proposed measures and recommendations to strengthen the contingency response to deal with serious flooding incidents.
