Tsuen Wan District (TWDIST) launched “Project KEY” last year to identify members of the public or auxiliary officers at the district level and equip them with the skills to achieve the goal of becoming regular police officers, thereby passing on the mission of the Force. The number of mentees of the project has nearly reached 30 so far.
Kit, a trainee who was an auxiliary police constable, recently got the offer of Probationary Inspector and is now receiving basic training. “When I completed the auxiliary police training three years ago, I did not imagine that I would have a chance to become an inspector.” Although Kit had been a member of the scout since childhood and received disciplinary training, he did not know much about the Force. After graduating from a university in the United Kingdom, Kit returned to Hong Kong to work and served as an auxiliary police constable in his spare time.
Kit’s determination to apply for the post of Probationary Inspector stemmed from Operation TIDERIDER last year. Having witnessed the social unrest, Kit has protected Tsuen Wan Police Station several times as an auxiliary officer. “It’s not easy to become a regular officer, but I am determined to strive for my goal.” Kit admitted that some of his relatives and friends did not understand the Force, and even cast a strange look on him when he applied for the post of Probationary Inspector. However, his persistence drove him to join “Project KEY”, paving the way for being a Probationary Inspector.
Since his participation in “Project KEY”, Kit had strengthened his physical fitness and mindset through the systematic training and sharing from different management officers. He was also enlightened to think from the management’s perspective, thereby gaining knowledge of the other side of policing work.
Recently, Kit attended a sharing session of “Project KEY” as a successful mentee. During the session, he joined a newly passed-out Probationary Inspector and a Physical Training Instructor of the Police College to share their feelings and insights throughout the selection and training process with the mentees.
TWDIST Commander Kerry Carew shared his policing experience during the session. He also thanked Kit for his sharing with the mentees, and encouraged all mentees to keep up their efforts in order to achieve their goals.
