As a number of container terminals are located in New Territories South Region, officers of the Emergency Unit of New Territories South (EU NTS) are required to handle emergency incidents on board the berthed vessels from time to time. The confined space and unpredictable wave motions increase the safety hazard of emergency incident response.
To enhance officers’ operational competency and professional knowledge, the EU NTS and Marine Police Training School jointly provided two one-day training programmes to frontline officers of EU NTS in July. The training programme covered the introduction to safety on board vessels, a visit to a police launch and experience sharing. Training content included pre-boarding preparation, safe movement and precaution on board different parts of a ship, and case study. The training greatly enhanced the professional knowledge of EU officers on the safety on board vessels and boosted their confidence in handling emergency incidents on board different vessels.
