Regional Commander of Kowloon West Rupert Dover officiated at the opening ceremony for the newly built District Operations Room (DOR) of Mong Kok District (MKDIST) on June 29. Accompanied by MKDIST Commander Bradley Wright, Mr Dover visited the DOR to learn about the new equipment and facilities.
In line with the Mong Kok District Action Plan 2020 and the Force’s goal for the widest adoption of new technology in the workplace, many types of new information technology equipment have been built in to the new DOR. Moreover, an all-round improvement has been made to the existing facilities so as to enhance operational capabilities and efficiency, and to provide a better workplace for all staff to meet the challenges ahead. A particular highlight is the new “Interactive Digital Board” which enables users to write, draw, as well as to communicate using online instant messaging applications. Besides, MKDIST has also introduced an “Interactive Digital Multi-touch Table” where deployments of police units in the field can be drawn on satellite images and 3D drawings, thereby depicting the real-life environment for command and control purposes.
In addition, the new DOR is also equipped with a dedicated “Public Announcement System”, which allows messages to be delivered instantly to enhance public safety in the environs of the police station. The system can be used in conjunction with the station’s upgraded closed-circuit television system with “pan-tilt-zoom” functions that displayed on the video wall. A 85-inch 4K Ultra High Definition television has also been brought into service, allowing officers to view live streaming through a multi-screen display for monitoring of real-time events. These improvements have greatly enhanced officers’ efficiency and accuracy in the appraisal of the situation on the ground.
MKDIST will hold a series of internal training sessions to ensure officers in the District are familiar with the DOR’s latest technology. Community leaders including members of the Yau Tsim Mong District Fight Crime Committee will also be invited to inspect the new facilities.
