“A canvas shoe is found. Does it belong to the missing person?” Through dogged persistence, the rescue team comprising members from the Regional Missing Persons Unit of New Territories South (RMPU NTS), the Fire Services Department and the Civil Aid Service managed to discover a clue after a painstaking overnight search in a vast area of woodland on May 25. While maintaining close contact with the informant Ms Ko, the team made a detailed analysis and finally identified the location to conduct key search and rescue to look for Ms Ko’s elderly husband with dementia. Having conquered the adverse weather conditions and the rugged hill paths, the fearless officers successfully extricated the old man, who had been trapped for 50 hours. The reunited couple burst into tears of joy, and the team was also delighted by the great miracle achieved through their hard work.

Ms Ko expressed deep gratitude to the rescue team. The officers realised that they not only had saved the missing person, but also the entire family, as they were given an opportunity to reunite. In her thank you letter, Ms Ko highly appreciated the work of the Police, which makes officers of the RMPU NTS proud of themselves for fulfilling their duties.
