The Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon East (RCPO KE) visited various types of premises in April and May to provide anti-burglary security advice.

In view of burglary cases having taken place at rural village houses, RCPO KE officers visited rural committees in the Region to promote Project EYEWATCHER, during which villagers were encouraged to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems. RCPO KE officers also gave out signs saying “Our village is under 24-hour surveillance” to villagers who had installed CCTVs. The signs can be displayed in the villages to enhance deterrence against burglars.

As for burglary targeting street stores, the RCPO KE continued to engage street store owners under Project Urban Beacon, during which security assessment would be conducted with security advice given, such as installing CCTV systems and securing locking mechanisms.

With regard to other vulnerable premises, the RCPO KE conducted publicity campaigns in areas with commercial and industrial building clusters, as well as buildings with scaffoldings mounted. RCPO KE officers distributed pamphlets with security advice targeting different types of premises, and gave out small burglar alarms to encourage the public to enhance security at their residence and workplace.
