The Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force (HKAPF) has been playing a vital role in internal security and frontline policing to support regular police officers in safeguarding Hong Kong. Since the start of Operation TIDERIDER last year, around 500 auxiliary officers have been turned out every day, a fivefold increase in turnout rate when compared to the past. It is noteworthy that over 1 300 auxiliary officers were on duty to support frontline policing on National Day (October 1) and District Council Election Day (November 24) last year respectively, amounting to about half of the strength of the HKAPF.

In order to recruit more talents for the HKAPF, the Auxiliary Police Headquarters and the Auxiliary Support Bureau have endeavored to engage with various community sectors to encourage people from all walks of life to join the HKAPF, and to encourage employers to support their staff to take part in auxiliary police duties.

On May 13, a delegation of the Youth Committee of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong visited the Auxiliary Police Headquarters to learn about the practical training sessions of the Recruit Police Constables (Auxiliary) Basic Training Course and the Inspectors of Police (Auxiliary) Promotion Course, and to meet with auxiliary trainees. The delegates said the visit had deepened their understanding of the work of Auxiliary Police and they expressed appreciation to auxiliary officers for their contributions to Hong Kong. Besides, the Auxiliary Police Headquarters and the Auxiliary Support Bureau conducted a recruitment talk for the Aviation Security Company Limited on May 29 and introduced auxiliary training and duties to the management of the company.

Working with the Police Public Relations Branch, the Auxiliary Support Bureau has embarked on a publicity campaign on the theme of “Police and Hong Kongers, We are Family” to demonstrate the comradeship of the regular and auxiliary police forces, and to encourage families and friends of regular and auxiliary officers to join the HKAPF to uphold law and order together.
