On April 22, Regional Commander of New Territories North Mak Chin-ho and Tuen Mun District (TMDIST) Management hosted a video conference with 25 school representatives, including vice principals and discipline masters, to exchange views on nurturing and protecting young people.

The recent diminishing law-abiding values of some young people and misunderstanding of police work are primarily attributable to fake and misleading information and the lack of effective communication. In the midst of the coronavirus outbreak, TMDIST utilised technology to maintain continued engagement with schools. During the video conference, officers briefed the school representatives on the overall crime trends in TMDIST and youth crimes stemming from the anti-extradition law amendment bill. They discussed the Extended Community Support Service Scheme and police’s duties and responsibilities. Representatives also shared with officers young people’s aspirations as well as valuable opinions on the TMDIST’s future activities for youths.
