This year, the Emergency Unit of New Territories South (EU NTS) continued to implement “Project SPEARHEAD” to provide training for frontline officers of NTS to enhance their operational skills and competence. The training covered tactical approach to suspicious vehicles, room entry tactics, handling of barricaded suspects and Immediate Tactical Intervention, which required a readily available and spacious training venue that would not be affected by weather conditions.

On the initiative of EU NTS, the indoor car park area on the ground floor of NTS Regional Headquarters was flexibly utilised and modified. With temporary restricted access and brief interior setting, the car park furnished a desirable venue for running scenario simulation exercises with the use of FX marker ammunition, so as to test and enhance the trainees’ tactical skills and the use of force in a realistic and close-range combat environment. Between March and April 2020, ten training sessions with the use of FX marker ammunition were conducted at the car park. In the past, the training was conducted at the Police College’s venue in Fanling once every six months. The trainees gave positive feedbacks on the use of the car park as a training venue.

Through the flexible utilisation of the car park, more training opportunities in different settings could be provided to frontline officers of NTS, thereby enhancing their competence in coping with challenges at the forefront.
