Following the counter-terrorism (CT) exercise conducted by the Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit at the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point in March, Border District (BORDIST) has initiated a series of CT knowledge sharing sessions.

The first session was held at the headquarters of BORDIST on April 28, drawing the participation of 80 officers from BORDIST and Tin Shui Wai Division (TSWDIV) who are stationed at boundary control points. Representatives of the Security Wing, the Counter Terrorism Response Unit (CTRU) and the Emergency Unit of New Territories North (EU NTN) were invited to talk about the global and local terrorism trends, actions at scene, CT operations and their experiences in handling real-life cases.

In the face of the evolving global terrorist landscape and the emerging trend of domestic terrorism, one of the speakers reminded officers to remain vigilant and report to relevant units when they notice any suspicious individuals or activities. Meanwhile, a representative from EU NTN emphasised that some improvised explosive devices seized were powerful and could cause serious damages and casualties if detonated.

Police Constable Ah Ho from Ta Kwu Ling Division said that the sharing session had enhanced his preparedness for handling CT related incidents. Sergeant Lily from TSWDIV stated that the sharing of the CTRU had increased her understanding of the importance of handling CT related incidents in a calm and professional manner. Other participating officers also hoped that similar sharing sessions could be held more often.
