The Juvenile Protection Section of Hong Kong Island Region (JPS HKI) held a meeting with the Methodist Centre’s representatives of “Project Phoenix – Community Support Service Scheme” on March 27 to exchange views on the cooperation to support arrested youths.

Since the launch of the extended Community Support Service Scheme (CSSS), the JPS HKI and the Methodist Centre have maintained close communication to provide arrested youths and their families with timely support service as well as early intervention so that professional social workers can provide counselling for those in need.

During the meeting, both parties expressed their expectation for the support service and actively exchanged views on large-scale arrests, case referrals, liaison and follow-up matters, thereby enhancing their mutual understanding of each other’s role in the CSSS. Consensus was reached on the implementation plan and the direction for future cooperation. Under the CSSS, both parties will continue to provide arrested youths and their families or guardians with timely referral for counselling and support service so as to relieve their stress, reduce recidivism and bring juvenile offenders back on the right track.
