Amid the outbreak of COVID-19, there has been an upsurge of face mask related scams across the territory. Swindlers have used online shopping websites, social media platforms or instant messaging applications to search for potential targets.

In order to raise public awareness of the modus operandi of face mask scams, the Regional Crime Prevention Office of New Territories North (RCPO NTN), in partnership with District Fight Crime Committees (DFCCs) and Senior Police Call (SPC) members, mounted a publicity campaign in Tai Po, Yuen Long, Tuen Mun and Border Districts on March 26, during which anti-epidemic supplies and leaflets were distributed to the public. Chairman of Tuen Mun DFCC Mr Lee Hung-sham also attended the event to disseminate anti-scam messages to different sectors of the community. With the support of community leaders and members of public, the event fostered community engagement in crime prevention.
