The Force launched the "Animal Watchers" Scheme this year and delegated officers to coordinate publicity work in each of the Police Regions. Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon West (RCPO KW) partnered with Kowloon West Youth-Care Committee and Asia Non-profit Animal Rescue to hold an event about animal protection on November 9. The event, named "Be a One-day Pet Owner", offered teenagers an opportunity to take care of abandoned dogs.

The teenage volunteers washed dog crates, bathed and groomed the dogs, gave treatment to their skin problems and took them for a walk. The teenagers learnt to respect life and understood that they should think twice before adopting a pet.
