The Force updated its motto from "We Serve with Pride and Care" to "Serving Hong Kong with Honour, Duty and Loyalty" on November 19, 2019. The rationale for this change is that on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Force, thanks to the professionalism and steadfast determination of generations of police officers, the new motto injects the characteristics of "Honour, Duty and Loyalty" into each member of the Force. This is so that the Force can respond to the increasing expectations of our community and rise to the challenges ahead. The key concepts of "Honour, Duty and Loyalty" were formally introduced in the training package of Living the Values Wave IX.

Key elements of the new motto are:

Serving Hong Kong – this places the emphasis on Our Common Purpose, which is taken largely from Section 10 (Duties of police force) of the Police Force Ordinance (Cap. 232), namely ensuring a safe and stable society by upholding the rule of law, maintaining law and order, preventing and detecting crime, and preventing injury to life and property.

• We are honoured and have a duty to serve Hong Kong and safeguard our home, our community.

• As a police officer and also a citizen of Hong Kong, we are proud to be vested with the duty to serve Hong Kong, our home and our community.

Honour – as a modern police organisation we must recognise that it is an honour to be a member of the Force to serve the community, which is consistent with the Force Values of integrity and honesty;

Duty – to reflect that as police officers we have a duty to the people of Hong Kong and to serve society, in line with the Force Values of respect for the rights of the public, fairness, impartiality and compassion in all our dealings, and acceptance of responsibility and accountability; and

Loyalty – setting out the requirement to be loyal both to the Force and to our home Hong Kong, to serve the community, thus reflecting the Force Value of professionalism and the sworn Oath of Office.
