A four-member delegation from the Force Escort Group (FEG) visited the Traffic Operations of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Police Force in Canberra from November 9 to 13.
Led by Superintendent Ho Ka-fei and comprising Chief Inspector Chik Ming-yam, Sergeants Tse Wai-kit and Li Chi-kwong, the delegation called at the ACT Police Force Headquarters and met the Traffic Commandant, Mr Ben Cartwright. After the meeting, Officer Commanding Traffic Operations, Ms Susan Ball, and Officer Commanding Close Protection Unit, Ms Amanda Kates, explained the structure and work of the unit, including vehicles, equipment, training and escort tactics. Both parties also shared experience and discussed training programmes and escort tactics.
The delegation also had an on-site observation of the Escort for the Royal Visit of Prince Charles to Canberra on the Australian Remembrance Day on November 11. The delegation members also visited a Command and Control Centre, Police Driver Training Centre and Capital Traffic Management Centre, and observed operations against drink and drug driving.
The visit to Canberra gave the delegation members an insight into road policing, especially escort tactics, and the good practices of the ACT Police Force.
