Regional Commander Kowloon West (RC KW) Chung Siu-yeung, who is Chairperson of the Force Working Group on Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC), hosted a liaison meeting with the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for the first time on April 20.  A total of 13 NEC-related NGOs attended the meeting, including Christian Action, Hong Kong Unison, Thai Regional Alliance in Hong Kong, Thai Migrant Worker Union in Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Christian Service.

 

At the meeting, KW officers introduced a trial project, "TRANSLINK", which provides instant interpretation service in the police report rooms in Sham Shui Po, Tsim Sha Tsui and Yau Ma Tei.  The service, provided by a Home Affairs Department-funded NGO, Center for Harmony and Enhancement of Ethnic Minority Residents (CHEER), has been running smoothly in the past six months, and has met with favourable comments and support from the NEC community. 

 

It is expected that the project will be extended to more police report rooms. The NGO representatives welcomed this and indicated that they would like to promote the project to their members and service clients.

 

Thanking his guests for supporting NEC policing, Mr Chung said the Force would strengthen co-operation and communication with the NEC community and relevant organisations through liaison activities and provision of quality services.  In response, the NGO representatives expressed appreciation of police efforts for the NEC.
