Road Safety Council 45th Anniversary Ceremony cum Safety Walk Carnival

The Road Safety Council 45th Anniversary Ceremony cum Safety Walk Carnival was successfully held on November 25 at The Peak Galleria and Mt. Austin Playground with around 1,000 members of the public participated. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Chairperson of the Road Safety Council - Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr TANG Ping-keung, Chairperson of Road Safety Campaign Committee, Ms MA Ka-wai Rebecca and Chairperson of Road Safety Research Committee, Mr PANG Wai-shing followed by a 3.5-kilometre safety walk along Harlech Road and Lugard Road, and a carnival with a number of game booths at Mount Austin Playground.

The Event is aimed to enhance the community's awareness on road safety through different road safety messages at the checkpoints along the safety walk and at the fun-filled game booths of the carnival.

Mr TANG expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the members of the Council and the working partners for their contributions and support. He described that roads in the city functions similar to the blood vessels in a human body that supporting us with nutrient transportation and energy. The Road Safety Council has been maintaining a safe and effective road system in Hong Kong for the past 45 years same as we are taking care of vascular in our body.

In the past years, the Road Safety Council has played an active role in road safety education and publicity, with taking into consideration of the causation factors of traffic accidents, in five main themes including Student Pedestrian Safety, Cycling Safety, Driving Attentively, Anti-Drink Driving and Anti-Drug Driving. Mr. Tang appealed to the public to continue to make joint efforts to realize the vision of "Zero Accidents on the Road, Hong Kong's Goal".
