The Finance Committee has endorsed funds for the construction of a Police post and other associated infrastructure and community facilities to support the Hong Kong Disneyland Theme Park at Penny's Bay on Lantau Island.

Lantau District Commander, Mr Mike Cartwright, said: "The Police post will facilitate visitors to the theme park that may require our services. Essential facilities will include a report room, a briefing and control room, interview rooms and equipment rooms.

"In emergencies, the Police post can also serve as a command post to coordinate our response to major incidents within the theme park.

"We will maintain a close working relationship with security personnel of Disneyland with a view to enhancing our service and response capability to deal with any incident," he said.

The Planning and Development Chief Superintendent, Ms Barbara Willison, added: "The Police post will be constructed adjacent to a new fire station cum ambulance depot. The external design of the complex will be in line with the'garden theme' for the park. It will be a functional building to support our Police officers and provide an effective and efficient service to the public.

"It will also be fitted out with modern technology and be an energy efficient building. Construction of the post will commence in December 2002 and is scheduled for completion in November 2004."

Ms Willison thanked Mr Cartwright, and officers from Lantau District, as well as the P&D project team consisting of Ms Carmen Lo Ka-man, Stephen Chu Chi-pak and Jack Lee Kai-kit for their hardwork and commitment in the planning, development and acquisition of funds for the project.
