Led by its Chief Ambassador Wong Chung-chun, Ho Lap Project Legacy Team joined hands with school sponsoring body Sik Sik Yuen (SSY) to establish Hong Kong’s first flag guard team organised by a school sponsoring body. It is hoped that the national identity and patriotic sentiment of young people can be strengthened through training in Chinese-style foot drill.

The inauguration ceremony of the SSY Flag Guard Team was held at Wong Tai Sin Temple on September 17. Deputy Director-General of the Coordination Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Mr Chen Zetao was invited as the guest of honour and presented the founding certificates and appointment letters. In his speech, Chief Ambassador Wong Chung-chun said, “The flag guard team comprising new generations will create the future. Its members can enhance their discipline and confidence, as well as deepening their understanding of our motherland. They deserve taking pride in their Chinese identity and membership of team.”

The founding of SSY Flag Guard Team started in late 2022. The team comprises around 60 students from the five SSY affiliated secondary schools. The team members have received training in Chinese-style foot drill and flag raising from instructors from the Police College and members of Ho Lap Project Legacy Team since July this year. The team conducted its first flag-raising ceremony in celebration of the National Day at Wong Tai Sin Temple on October 1 this year. The entire training programme was designed and implemented by Chief Inspector Lo Yee-chung, an alumnus of Ho Lap College.
