Accompanied by rounds of applauses and laughter from their family members and fellow colleagues, six Station Sergeants (SSGTs) and eight Sergeants (SGTs) received their promotion letters from Regional Commander of New Territories South (NTS) Patrick Laidler on March 6 and 13 respectively. Mr Laidler congratulated the officers on their well-deserved promotion and thanked them for their contribution to the Region.

SSGT Chiu Nga-lui, who was promoted from Crime Stream, shared her experience as a Detective Sergeant. She said, “The most essential part of my job was to care for and to train up my subordinates, as well as to coordinate their efforts with a view to resolving problems. No matter how complicated and difficult the process might be, we, as a team, could enjoy the sense of satisfaction when justice was served. I wish to encourage the new generation of the Force that there are still many citizens supporting the Police. Police work is not simply a job, but a meaningful career with a unique mission. We should uphold our values and embrace the challenges ahead.”

SGT Chan Kam-kin, who was promoted from Uniform Branch, said, “It is not easy to be a police officer nowadays, especially in recent years, police are facing many challenges including those brought along by social unrest. My family members give me unfailing support, though they do worry about my personal safety at times. They are proud of my police identity, as we are the ones who maintain the law and order of Hong Kong. Now, upon my promotion to the rank of SGT, I will continue to devote myself to that trust as well as to support and take care of my subordinates.”
